Good intentions are easily set aside in retirement by small distractions, so I have been missing for five years.
I am back and determined to write more. In the past five years I have welcomed into our family five beautiful grandchildren. They keep us busy flying back and forth across the country and contemplating a possible move to the west coast. I am now known as Mama Suzie, Miss Suzie and Grandma Suzie.
Professional consulting took a back seat to parental consulting, something that is not always welcome. I wonder why our adult children do not appreciate the way we did things.
Today’s parents have access to too much information from strangers via the internet on how to raise the perfect child. So perhaps I can be of assistance to those of you seeking answers from an internet stranger, and my kids can ask your moms.
A school psychologist once told me to “Love” them and let them know they were loved, and that is the only advice I needed to raise a good person. I did, and they are.
Last night I told my husband I had to dispose of the numerous three-ring binders from my professional life, and he recommended I give them away rather than shred them. Giving them away for 15 years has still not cleared the shelves and closets.
This morning a young lady approached me at our local Y and asked if I remembered her. Did I ever and was I thrilled to meet my former student Mallory as an adult.!!! One of the many books of advice I started to write and never finished was about this child’s process of becoming a reader and writer by age six.
Today Mallory is a behavioral therapist working with autistic children and she is happy to receive my binders and advice. She is the inspiration for me to begin blogging again today .
For those of you parents and teachers with young children who might be looking for some internet advice, my published work is available at
